 Location Information

Excideuil is a small village about 31 kilometres north-east of Perigueux, at the junction of the main road from Perigueux and the main road from Thiviers.

The Cemetery is on high ground east of the village, to the right of the road to St Sulpice. There are 6 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here in a plot right of the large Sepulchre seen from the entrance.



Burial Details

1133762 Sergeant Arthur Alfred Beale, Flight Engineer in 299 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 21st August 1944, aged 24. Son of Arthur William and Eveline Sarah Beale, of Beckenham, Kent.

1322410 Flight Sergeant Ronald Victor Cooling, Bomb Aimer in 299 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 21st August 1944, aged 23. Son of Henry Ernest and Florence Theresa Cooling, of Goodmayes, Essex; husband of Patricia Gladys Cooling.

178818 Pilot Officer Reginald Dutton, Air Gunner in 299 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 21st August 1944, aged 33. Son of William Henry and Sarah Dutton; husband of Dorothy Dutton, of Biddulph, Staffordshire.

169876 Flying Officer George James Elliott, Air Gunner/Wireless Operator in 299 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 21st August 1944, aged 24. Son of William and Olive Annie Elliott, of Bootle, Lancashire; husband of Brenda Margaret Elliott, of Bootle. His twin brother, Thomas William, also died on service.

106539 Flight Lieutenant Carl Victor Mason, Navigator in 299 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 21st August 1944, aged 30. Son of Nellie Mason; husband of Edith Mason, of Leeds, Yorkshire.

105159 Flight Lieutenant Ernest Albert Taylor, (Mentioned in Despatches), 299 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 21st August 1944, aged 30. Son of William and Rosina Martha Taylor, of Nuneaton, Warwickshire; husband of Joan Claudine Taylor, of Nuneaton.
