Ian Jacob Havelaar
Royal Princess Irene

Born in Rotterdam 19th March 1910.

Lt Havelaar got killed during contact with an enemy patrol which was on its way to demolish the drainage lock what would have set most of the island under water. Also their goal was to round up all the male inhabitants of Colijnsplaat in the village church and blow it up. The action of Lt Havelaar prevented this thus saving lots of lives.
After the war a street in Colijnsplaat was named after him and he has a memorial in the church wall
