Location Information
Chiddes is a village and commune in the Department of the Nièvre, 79 kilometres east-south-east of Nevers, and 8.7 kilometres north-north-west of Luzy. From the centre of the village, take the western exit. Some 200 metres along this road, fork left on to the Pré du Bourg (D124) and the communal cemetery is some 500 metres along this road on the left.
The one British war grave is south-east of the entrance, near the rear wall.
A memorial plaque is also on the outer wall at the entrance to the cemetery.

Here lies Captain Paul Sarrette called Louis W.O. , head of the Maquis group which bears his name. Died for France 5th September 1944. "I am going to fight, not for recognition, glory or flag, but for men, women and children, so that all may live without knowing the horror of war." Louis to his parents 22nd December 1943. |
