Location Information

Chaumont is a large town in the Haute-Marne region of France. Chaumont-en-Bassigny (St. Aignan) Churchyard is located in the North-East of the town on the D674.


History Information

On the North boundary are 3 World War One British graves removed from CHAUMONT AMERICAN CEMETERY and 1 World War Two Burial.  


World War One Burials


7676 Driver C. H. Cutler, H. Q. 45th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, died 29th August 1918, aged 35. Husband of Mrs. B. Cutler, of 9, Elephant Rd., Walworth, London. INSCRIPTION. NO MORE WORK OR WEEPING GONE FOR EVER HOME IN CHRIST'S HOLY KEEPING REST UNTIL HE COME.

40910 Private William Muris, 6th Bn. South Wales Borderers, died 8th July 1918, aged 31. Husband of Dora Jane Muris, of 178, Helmsley Rd., Newcastle-on-Tyne. INSCRIPTION. PEACE PERFECT PEACE.

S/360777 Private T. Speakman, Army Service Corps, died 25th October 1918, aged 28. Son of Thomas and Esther Ann Speakman; husband of Mabel Mary Speakman, of "Locksley," Ormskirk. Born at Hindley, Lancs. INSCRIPTION. CALLED TO HIGHER AND GREATER SERVICE.


World War Two Burial 


1260360 Sergeant Norman Gorfunkle, Observer in 76 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 7th November 1942, aged 22. Son of Wolfe Gorfunkle, and of Sylvia Gorfunkle, of Cricklewood, Middlesex. INSCRIPTION. WITH THEE IS THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE" DEEPLY MOURNED BY HIS MOTHER AND SISTER.
