CAMPIGNEULLES-LES-GRANDES CHURCHYARD

Location Information

Campigneulles-les-Grandes is a village and commune almost 22 miles (35 kilometres) south of Boulogne-Sur-Mer, and about 3 miles (5 kilometres) south-west of Montreuil-sur-Mer, a town on the main road (N.1) from Boulogne to Abbeville and Paris. In the churchyard, about 15 yards north of the north-eastern corner of the church is the collective grave of five airmen from the United Kingdom.


Burial Details

742109 Sergeant Leonard John Brooks, Pilot in 77 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th May 1940, aged 23. Son of Alfred John Brooks, and of Lilian Elsie Brooks, of South Norwood, Surrey.

745989 Sergeant Charles Herbert Butler, Observer in 
77 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 28th May 1940.

630838 Sergeant Kenneth Charles Chatfield, Wireless Operator in 77 Squadron, Royal Air force, died 28th May 1940, aged 18. 
Son of Charles Henry and Hannah Elizebeth Chatfield.

626227 Sergeant Arthur Fryer, Air Gunner in 77 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 28th May 1940, aged 20. Son of Francis James Fryer and Margaret Fryer, of Conway, Caernarvonshire. His brother David George also died on service and is buried in Conwy Cemetery in the U. K.

33311 Flying Officer Trevor James Geach, Pilot in 77 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 28th May 1940, aged 22. Son of Reginald Douglas and Caroline Florence Maud Geach, of Wadebridge, Cornwall.
