Berneuil German Military Cemetery is located in the Charente-Maritime region of France, halfway between the towns of Saintes and Pons on the D. 137.
Historical Information
The war cemetery was established in the parish of Berneuil after an agreement between the governments of France and Germany was signed in 1954. The cemetery was inaugurated on June 24, 1967 in the presence of numerous official representatives from both countries and nearly 600 German families.
It was set up as a collective cemetery and houses the remains of 8,295 soldiers of the Wehrmacht who died in the 15 southwestern departments of France. There are also 353 unidentified.
