​Location Information


Beaufort-en-Argonne is a village and commune 40 kilometres north-north-west of Verdun and about the same distance south-south-east of Sedan. In the Churchyard are 5 U. K. airmen from World War Two.

Beaufort-en-Argonne Churchyard

Lancaster I R5574 took off from Syerston at 1650 on 21st December 1942 with seven crew members from 106 Squadron onboard. The plane crashed at Beaufort-en-Argonne, 43km NNW of Verdun in France. Five of the crew members are buried here, Flight Sergeant Brian Gordon Louch is commemorated at the Runnymede Memorial in England and P/O Philip Brian Cecil Moore survived the crash to become a P. O. W.

Son of Herbert and Florence Amelia Cooke, stepson of Mr. F.D. Laland, of Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia. His twin brother, Sergeant (Air Gnr.) Harold Cooke, also died on service and is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery in Germany

Son of James and Mary H. Goodwin, of Glasgow. His headstone bears the inscription "In My Father's House Are Many Mansions... I Go To Prepare A Place For You"

938106 Sergeant Fred Morrell, Flight Engineer in 
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, aged 24. Son of Frederick John and Dora Morrell, of Tettenhall, Staffordshire.

658695 Sergeant Michael Reynolds, Wireless Operator in 
Royal Air Force.
