Location Information

Barbâtre is a village on the island of Noirmoutier, which is situated off the west coast of France and 32 kilometres south of the mouth of the River Loire and 76 kilometres west of La Roche-sur-Yon, the chief town of the Department of Vendée. Barbâtre Churchyard is about 2 kilometres from the end of the causeway. The War Graves are to the right of the central crucifix.


Historical Information

There are 12 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-45 war here, 7 of which are unidentified.

His headstone bears the inscription "May His Soul Rest In Peace"

1266931 Sergeant Dennis Shapley Hall, 156 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 16th April 1942, aged 21.

Son of Evelyn May Hall; nephew of Mrs. H. I. Sayer, of Dereham, Norfolk. His headstone bears the inscription "For Peace And Freedom God Willed He Should Go We Wanted To Keep Him We Loved Him So"

13005420 Private William James McFeggan, Auxiliary Military, 
Pioneer Corps, died 17th June 1940, aged 49.
