Location Information

Avord is a village and commune 12 miles (20 kilometres) south-east of Bourges, and 5 miles (8 kilometres) south-west of Baugy. The village is situated on the road from Bourges to Nerondes. The cemetery lies on the north-eastern side of the village off the road to Baugy. 


Historical Information

There are 7 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-1945 war here, in one group, south-east of and near to the entrance.

Casualties: United Kingdom 6, New Zealand 1. Total 7.

171863 Flying Officer Andrew White Munro, 487 Squadron, 
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 5th July 1944, aged 27. Son of Robert and Mary White Munro, of Walker, Newcastle-on-Tyne. His headstone bears the inscription "In Memory Of Our Dear Son Andy. Well Done, Thou Good And Faithful Servant"

1584193 Sergeant Robert Brotherstone Nash, 90 Squadron, 
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th May 1944, aged 20. 
Son of Henry William and Mima Nash, of Coundon, Coventry. His headstone bears the inscription "Only Those That Have Lost Can Tell The Pain Of Parting Without Farewell"

645711 Sergeant William John (Bill) Penhaligon, 90 Squadron, Royal Air Force, died 10th May 1944, aged 24. 
Son of William John and Annie Penhaligon, of Redruth, Cornwall. His headstone bears the inscription "Our Beloved Bill Ever Treasured In The Memory Of His Mother & Sister, Redruth, England"

1324628 Sergeant Ronald George Runyard, 90 Squadron, 
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 10th May 1944, aged 21. Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Runyard, of Southbourne, Bournemouth, Hampshire. His headstone bears the inscription "He Have His Life That We Might Live. God Bless You, Darling. Mum And Dad"
