Location Information

Avion is a town 14 kilometres north-north-east of Arras on the road from Arras to Lens. From Arras take the N17 towards Lens. The town is part of the suburbs of Lens. The communal cemetery is on the north-eastern side of the town.

5570860 Private Walter Arnold Ballard, 2nd Bn. Wiltshire Regiment, died 22nd May 1940, aged 19. Son of Walter R. and Florence Ballard, of Redhill, Surrey. His headstone bears the inscription "Our Dear Son. Remembrance Keeps Him Near. Love. Mum, Dad And Sister"

Northamptonshire Regiment, died 23rd May 1940, aged 19. Son of Joseph and Martha Maria Butler, of Leicester. His headstone bears the inscription "He Gave His Life For Peace And Freedom"

Northamptonshire Regiment, died 23rd May 1940.

9731 Major Hugh Francis Bradshaw Garrett, M. C. 7th Royal Tank Regiment, R.A.C., died 23rd May 1940, aged 46. 
Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Galloway Garrett; husband of Catherine Lyon Garrett, of Studley, Warwickshire.

841409 Gunner Stanley Leo Hodgson, 9 Field Regiment, 
Royal Artillery, died 23rd May 1940, aged 20. Son of Alfred Hodgson and of M. Hodgson, of Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Hard The Blow That Compelled Me To Part With The Son So Dear To My Heart. Mother"

5879884 Warrant Officer Class III Wilfred Lawson Mickley, 2nd Bn. 
Northamptonshire Regiment, died 23rd May 1940, aged 36. Son of Albert and Margaret Ellen Mickley; husband of Sarah Mickley, of Rostrevor, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. His headstone bears the inscription "In Loving Memory Of My Dear husband. Worthy Of Everlasting Remembrance"
