Location Information

Arques-la-Bataille is a small town 6 kilometres south-east of Dieppe on the Dieppe-Neufchatel-en-Bray Road.

The Cemetery is on the right of a small road,running from the Mairie Square to join the Dieppe to Martigny road, on the south east side of town.



Historical Information

Near the south-east corner of the cemetery is the British plot, in which are the graves of 8 men of the Seaforth Highlanders.

2820375 Lance Corporal Evan Findlay, 4th Bn. 
Seaforth Highlanders, died 10th June 1940, aged 25. Son of John and Elizabeth Findlay; husband of Christina Findlay, of Poyntzfield, Ross and Cromarty. His headstone bears the inscription 
In Remembrance Of My Beloved Husband "Till The Day Dawns" Loving Wife And Son Evan"

2819049 Private Andrew Cameron Gordon, 
Seaforth Highlanders, died 10th June 1940, aged 28.

3058414 Private Joshua McAllister, 4th Bn. Seaforth Highlanders, died 8th June 1940, aged 21. Son of Archibald and Marion McAllister, of Armadale, West Lothian. His headstone bears the inscription "Asleep In Jesus, Resting In Peace"

2817055 Lance Corporal Colin Moir, 4th Bn. 
Seaforth Highlanders, died 4th June 1940, aged 29. Son of Andrew Moir and of Jessie Ann Moir (nee McKenzie); husband of Margaret Ann Moir, of Fordoun, Kincardineshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Until The Day Dawns And The Shadows Flee. God's Greatest Gift, Remembrance. M. D. S. N."

2820991 Corporal Arthur Scott Riach, 4th Bn. 
Seaforth Highlanders, died 4th June 1940, aged 26.

2821808 Lance Corporal John Stewart, 4th Bn. Seaforth Highlanders, died 10th June 1940, aged 21.

3058457 Corporal John Wood, 4th Bn. Seaforth Highlanders, died 9th June 1940, aged 22. Son of Peter and Euphemia Wood, of Lintlaw, Berwickshire. His headstone bears the inscription "He Giveth His Beloved Sleep"
