Location Information

Arleux-en-Gohelle is a village and commune 7 miles (12 kilometres) north-east of Arras on the N.319 road to Henin-Lietard.

 
Historical Information

The communal cemetery is on the northern side of the village, about 600 yards from the church. It lies on the right hand side of the cart track which runs north from the church. The four British graves are near the middle of the eastern boundary.

3243366 Rifleman Robert Cooper, 2nd Bn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), died 23rd May 1940.

3247289 Rifleman Ronald Macdonald, 2nd Bn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), died 24th May 1940, aged 17. Son of William and Bertha Macdonald, of Leeds, Yorkshire. His headstone bears the inscription "Let Us Not Love In Word, Neither In Tongue; But In Deed And In Truth"

6198686 Rifleman William Simmonds, 2nd Bn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), died 10th October 1940, aged 30. Son of Edith Simmonds; nephew of Rose Driscoll, of Whitechapel, London. His headstone bears the inscription "Gone But Not Forgotten. May His Soul Rest In Peace"

3239349 Rifleman Alfred George Samuel Vincent, 2nd Bn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), died 23rd May 1940, aged 32. Son of George and Edney Maria Vincent. His headstone bears the inscription "God Has Taken You From Our Home, Dear Alf., But Never From Our Hearts"
