ZUIDLAREN GENERAL CEMETERY

GPS Coordinates: Latitude: 53.09007, Longitude: 6.69158

Location Information

Zuidlaren is a village 18 kilometres northeast of Assen, and 20 kilometres south-east of Groningen on the secondary road from Groningen to Gieten. The cemetery is 400 metres south of the village on the western side of the road to Gieten. South-west of the entrance is the grave of a British airman marked by a memorial erected by the local authorities.

Son of George Robson Fowler and Mabel Lilian Fowler, of Worcester Park, Surrey.

Leslie Fowler was educated at King's College, Wimbledon and joined the RAF in 1941, being trained in Canada.

Citation


"This officer has completed many operational missions over enemy territory, including attacks on main targets such as Cologne and Essen and mine laying operations in enemy waters. At all times Flight Lieutenant Fowler has displayed navigational abilities of a high order which has contributed much to the success of these sorties. This officer possesses a fine fighting spirit, which has inspired confidence in his crew."
