Location Information

Zelhem is 25 kilometres east of Arnhem and 5 kilometres north of Doetinchem. The cemetery is about 273 metres north of the village west of the road to Ruurlo. From the traffic lights in the centre of the village turn into Hengeloseweg. Continue along this road and turn first right into Magnoliaweg. At the end of this road bear right and the cemetery is along on the right. Enter the cemetery through the third entrance and the 16 Commonwealth war graves are on the right.

Total Burials: 16.

Identified Casualties: United Kingdom 9, Australia 5, Canada 1. Total 15.

Son of Bernard Thomas Brown and Isabel Brown, of Blenheim, New Zealand. His headstone bears the inscription "His Duty Fearlessly And Nobly Done. Always Remembered. R. I. P."

Homeward-bound, Harry's aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Hauptmann Joachim Böhner of the Stab I./NJG 6, who was flying a Bf 110 G-4 from Deelen airfield. Aircraft came down at Zelhem-Wassinkbrink, East of Arnhem, Gem. Bronckhorst, Landstreek Achterhoek, Province of Gelderland (near the German border). All 7 crew were KIA and are buried in this cemetery.

There is also an unknown U. K. Airman from the Royal Air Force buried in this cemetery. He was killed on the 23rd or 24th September 1944 and he was a member of the crew of the Lancaster ED 470.
