LE CHÂTEAU D'OLÉRON COMMUNAL CEMETERY

Location Information

Le Château is a small town and seaside resort on the island of Oléron in the Bay of Biscay; the island is reached by a bridge, which is some 32 kilometres south-west of Rochefort. Le Chateau is only 3 kilometres from the end of the bridge. The communal cemetery lies on the western side of the town on the road leading to St. Pierre. There is 1 Commonwealth burial of the 1939-1945 war here, to the left of the central cross.

121280 Flight Lieutenant Richard Alexander Curle, Pilot in 100 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died 4th March 1943, aged 28. Son of Alexander and Agnes Curle; husband of Sarah Edith Curle, of Newcastle-on-Tyne.
