Location Information
Dantumadeel is a commune comprising three villages namely, Damwoude, Veenwouden and Zwaagwesteinde. Damwoude is 5 kms south of Dokkum and 24 kms north-east of Leeuwarden. The Churchyard is located in the Voorweg.
The graves of 6 airmen are situated at the front left side of the church.

The British Stirling bomber R9263 was on a mission to Bocholt, Western Germany and was shot down by a night-fighter and crashed near the village of Akkerwoude, North Netherlands, killing 6 of the 7 crew. Flight engineer Sgt. F.A. Painter 572221 RAF survived the crash and was taken prisoner at Stalag Luft 4
